GP Registrar scholarships and incentives

There are a range of scholarships and incentives available for GP Registrars. For the latest information and personalised support for scholarships, incentives and supports available for you, please see below.  

National scholarships and incentives include:

  • Workforce Incentive Program – Rural Advanced Skills Stream 

The Rural Advanced Skills Stream rewards investment in specialist qualifications and advanced skills and encourages more doctors to work in a variety of settings using these skills in regional, rural and remote areas.

  • Workforce Incentive Program - Doctor Stream 

The Doctor Stream promotes careers in rural medicine by giving doctors financial incentives to practise in regional, rural and remote communities.

  • Health Workforce Scholarship Program

The Health Workforce Scholarship Program (HWSP) is available for eligible health professionals looking to upskill their skills and services up to the value of $10,000 per year for up to two years.

Membership of Rural Doctors Network

If you are a registrar in rural general practice, RDN is the organisation you should join.

Membership of RDN is free (there is no annual subscription fee) and provides you with many benefits, including:

  • professional and social opportunities to network with other like-minded medical professionals involved in rural health
  • subsidised attendance at RDN's excellent annual Continuing Professional Development (CPD) conferences
