Locum Incentives
Rural Doctors Network (RDN) offers subsidies to doctors who are registered as locums with RDN and complete eligible advertised roles.
RDN’s Locum Travel Subsidy may be available to eligible practices to help offset travel costs and encourage direct locum placements, reducing reliance on recruitment agencies.
Purpose of the Subsidy
The subsidy supports practices to engage locums for temporary leave cover of a permanent General Practitioner (GP).
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for a travel subsidy, all of the following criteria must be met:
- The locum must be registered with RDN
- The placement must be advertised through RDN
- The locum must be covering leave of a permanent GP (at least 3 days of the permanent GP's regular working hours).
- The placement must be a direct placement (not sourced through a recruitment agency)
- The placement must not be for general workforce shortages
Ineligible Placements
- Placements sourced via recruitment agencies
- Placements used to address ongoing workforce shortages
- Placements that were filled or confirmed prior to advertisement
- Situations where the doctor is already working at the practice
- These placements cannot be retrospectively advertised for the purpose of accessing the travel subsidy
Payment Details
- The subsidy is paid to the practice to cover the locum’s travel costs
- Where agreed, the subsidy may be paid directly to the locum if they are covering their own travel expenses
- Subsidies are paid after the placement is completed
- Subsidies cannot be backdated
- If a locum leaves before completing the placement, please contact RDN immediately
How to Check Eligibility
Before confirming a placement, please email RDN’s Recruitment Team to confirm eligibility.
Subsidies may be available up to specified maximum amounts, depending on the placement.
