Rethinking mentorship in rural and remote health care

A new research article is challenging traditional approaches to mentoring health professionals in rural and remote communities, arguing that mentorship should be embedded into everyday clinical practice rather than treated as a separate training activity.

Published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, the commentary by researchers from the University of Technology Sydney, Rural Doctors Network, and Diabetes Australia highlights how workforce shortages, geographic isolation, and increasing demand for chronic disease care are placing significant pressure on rural health systems.
