Rural GPs Refresher Conference brings GPs to Port Macquarie

Last Friday, 120 GPs arrived at Port Macquarie for the Rural GPs Refresher Conference for what’s become one of the most anticipated highlights of the training and professional development calendar!
Hosted by Rural Doctors Network and the Rural Doctors’ Association of NSW, with support from the NSW Ministry of Health, the GPs were also joined by Rural Resident Medical Officer Cadets at the conference, which was specifically designed for rural practitioners and offered a weekend of rural-focused lectures, education, networking and relaxation.
RDN's Lindsey Eifler, Manager, Conferences & Events, said the conference was a wonderful success which attracted the largest attendance to date.
“We’ve been delighted to host 120 rural GPs for this year’s Rural GPs Refresher Conference – our largest attendance yet,” said Lindsey.
“It’s a unique event that combines relevant, rural-focused education with the chance to step away from the day-to-day, reconnect with colleagues, and spend time in a relaxed seaside setting,” she said.
The Refresher Conference had delegates coming in from interstate, travelling from Queensland and the Northern Territory to be there for the event. Across New South Wales, a large contingent represented northern NSW, whilst others travelled in from as far as Broken Hill in the west and Merimbula in the south.
With everything from dermatology and paediatrics, to diabetes and obesity management on the agenda, every session was practical and, much to the delight of participants, immediately applicable for when they returned to their community and patients.
Lindsey said there was also very strong interest in the pre-conference workshops on offer including ADHD, ALS, and the New GP Orientation.
“Rural Doctors Network understands that every GPs’ time is limited, so we tried our best to fit in as much education and learning as we could across the weekend,” Lindsey said.
“Many made the most of the opportunity to extend their learning and make the most of their time away from their practice.”
