Sydney welcomes Deadly Doctors

20th October 2025

deadly drs.pngThe Aboriginal Health & Medical Research Council of NSW (AH&MRC), in partnership with Rural Doctors Network (RDN), hosted the Deadly Doctors Forum on Friday and Saturday in Little Bay, NSW on Bidjigal and Gadigal Lands.

Across the two days, the event brought together 46 doctors who work in NSW Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations and provided an opportunity for them to learn, share knowledge, strengthen networks, and celebrate the dedicated work being done by skilled and passionate GPs across the sector.

The event included enjoyable cultural aspects including a presentation by IndigiGrow and dinner at Midden which featured native Australian ingredients.

After a Welcome to Country from Aunty Maxine Ryan, amongst a huge line-up of experts and panellists who spoke at the Forum were NSW Chief Health Officer, Dr Kerry Chant and cardiologist Dr Raj Puranick.

Everything from Rheumatic heart disease, diabetes, digital health and immunisation priorities in NSW was discussed before a panel titled “are we ready for the next emergency” warranted some engaging and thought-provoking discussion on public health emergency preparedness.

Doctors took the opportunity to share insight into their own experiences and challenges and the event was praised for offering a wonderful opportunity for learning, peer connection and networking.

Why 'Deadly' Doctors? In Aboriginal Australian slang, the term 'deadly' means 'excellent' and is used to compliment someone's skills or achievements.
