Psychologist offers pocket full of wisdom to students

The Rural Health Pathways Showcase had the honour of welcoming a rural rising star as a workshop host last week, in the form of RDN’s Future Workforce Project Lead, Millie Hardie, who runs her own telehealth psychology practice from home in Cootamundra and is known as ‘The Pocket Psychologist’.
Millie has made national headlines for her unique and credible approach as a psychologist, delivering “pocket-sized pep talks” to her loyal social media following, which has rapidly grown to around 280,000 on Instagram after launching in April, with more than 52,000 on TikTok.
As The Pocket Psychologist, Millie’s fun and educational videos help make mental health education practical and easy to understand. This unique approach captured the attention of Channel Seven’s Sunrise TV Show where she was interviewed by hosts Nat and Matt (‘Shirvo’) about how to avoid burnout.
Millie also applied her learnings and advice to engaged groups of students on Monday with a variety of workshops aimed to inspire and educate. Millie’s key piece of advice for students at the Showcase is that it’s really important to know that when it comes to your career, you always have options!
“…If it doesn't seem like your first option is one that you can walk through the front door, there is always a side door or a window to be able to get where you want to go,” Millie said.
“There's always options and there's always people on your team that will help you get to where you want to go,” she said.
