Health district’s Movement Disorder Service celebrates two years
12th May 2025
News of the Area has reported the Mid North Coast Local Health District’s (MNCLHD) Movement Disorders Neurology Service is celebrating two years of providing specialised care to Mid North Coast residents living with Parkinson’s and other movement disorders.
The service is a collaboration between MNCLHD, Western Sydney Local Health District – Westmead Hospital, Rural Doctors Network (RDN) and Parkinson’s NSW.
The service provides patients with a hybrid model of face-to-face and telemedicine appointments with specialist neurologists in either Coffs Harbour or Port Macquarie and Movement Disorder Specialists fly-in once a month, removing the need for patients to travel to Sydney for their treatment.
News of the Area reports that ‘Ninety-five per cent of patients say they are extremely satisfied with the level of care and coordination, with many saying they are relieved by the reduced travel burden, with fewer trips required to Sydney for specialist consultations.’
RDN is the New South Wales and Australian Capital Territory Service Provider for Rural Health Outreach Fund (RHOF). RHOF aims to improve the health outcomes for people living in regional, rural and remote locations by supporting the delivery of Outreach health activities.
Funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC), RDN administers Health Outreach programs designed to increase access to medical, allied health and nursing services for people living in remote, rural, regional, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
