In 2024, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales took up the position of RDN's first ever Patron.
During RDN’s Rural GP’s Conference and the RDN Annual General Meeting in November, RDN CEO Richard Colbran was delighted to offer some reflections to RDN members on the news of our first Patron.2024 marked the 36th year of operations for RDN but the first in which the organisation has been granted Vice-Regal Patronage, with the acceptance of the role by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales.
“For all of us working at RDN - as well as our whole membership base - knowing that Her Excellency is aware of, and is encouraging our work, should give us great confidence. Her interest also in remote and rural NSW is very clear to see,” Mr Colbran said, while reflecting on support received from the Governor over the last five years – much of it unseen.
“During Covid, the Governor was very kind to hold a number of meet-and-greet and wellbeing sessions for rural practitioners in NSW. The aim of this initiative was to boost morale and wellbeing to help keep the health workforce strong and capable during challenging times and offer the opportunity to share their stories with the Governor and with each other.
"Her Excellency is an active supporter of the rural health community and brings a deep commitment to education, youth leadership, human rights and social justice to her role as Governor in the service of the people of NSW. We are delighted to have her ongoing support.”
