RDN Grants

Rural Doctors Network (RDN) administers the following grants for eligible rural GPs, nurses, allied health practitioners, practitioner families and practice support teams:

Site & Pre Employment Structured Clinical Interview (PESCI) Observation Grants

Primary health care practitioners can apply for a Site/PESCI Visit Grant to explore potential placements in:

  • Any Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation (ACCHO) across all Modified Monash Model (MMM) locations
  • Eligible health practices in MMM4–MMM7 communities (including Broken Hill)

Grants range from $450 to $3,000, based on the MMM classification of the practice (check MMM classification on the Health Workforce Locator Tool), reason for the visit, and time spent onsite.

Types of Funded Visits

Site Visit
Spend time at a practice to allow both the clinician and the practice to assess suitability before a job offer is made and accepted.

PESCI Observership
Observe a GP/Practice Principle or future supervisor to better understand the patient demographics and practice setting in preparation for a PESCI.

Important Information

Applications must be received and approved before the visit commences.
Applications submitted on or after the visit start date will not be eligible, and appeals will not be considered.

Relocation Grants

Thinking about making the move to a rural community? Relocation Grants of $1,500 to $5,500 are available to support eligible GPs, nurses, and allied health practitioners relocating to:

  • Any ACCHO across all MMM locations
  • Eligible health practices in MMM3–MMM7 communities (including Broken Hill)

Important Information

  • Timing: Applications must be submitted within three months of your relocation or start date. You may apply earlier if all supporting documents are ready.
  • Late applications will not be accepted under any circumstances.
  • Grant payment is made after your start date and working hours are verified directly with your practice.
  • Payment level is based on either the applicant’s residential or practice MMM classification, and is paid at the lower MMM rate.
  • A 12-month Return of Service Obligation (RoSO) in the community is required. If not fulfilled, the grant funds will be recovered on a pro-rata basis.
  • If multiple applicants relocate to the same address, the grant will either be shared or awarded to one applicant only.
  • You must be delivering a minimum of three days (24 hours) of patient/client appointments per week.
  • Services provided must be in the private or non-government primary health sector (e.g. general practice, private allied health, or a non-government organisation). Hospital or NSW Health roles are not eligible.
  • Any funding received from other sources (e.g. employer, Primary Health Network, local council) will be taken into account when assessing eligibility and determining the grant amount.
