Award category spotlight: Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare

This week, Rural Doctors Network is shining a spotlight on one of the National Rural and Remote Health Awards’ categories for 2025: Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare.

RDN Article Image CaptionsBorders (12).pngThe Excellence in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare Award recognises individuals and/or teams from all peoples, natures, and cultures, who deliver exceptional healthcare that is culturally safe and responsive to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Activities and programs should be collaborative and sustainable.

Mandatory criteria:

  • Nominee is a team or individual. 
  • Demonstrate cultural responsiveness.
  • Activities must have taken place during the period July 2024 - June 2025.
  • In areas designated between MM3-7 of the Modified Monash Model classification system.

All rural, remote and regional communities now have the opportunity to showcase this work and the #ruralpositive stories that can be found in rural and remote health by nominating today.

Presentation of the Awards will take place on Ngunnawal country at the National Press Club of Australia, in Canberra, on Wednesday 5 November 2025.

Amongst those attending to honour finalists and nominees will be the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, and the National Rural Health Commissioner, Professor Jenny May AM, along with other VIPs and representatives of the rural and remote health community from around Australia.
